The Dynamic Duo of John and Samuel Adams Essay Example

The Dynamic Duo of John and Samuel Adams Essay Two of the most dangerous men in Boston during the time of the revolutionary war were the Adams’ brothers. Though they were not brothers at all, they were in fact they were second cousins. They both had similar ideals about independence but came from different backgrounds. In time John Adams would become the more recognized Adams’ mostly in part to becoming the 1st vice president then later elected as the 2nd president of the United States. John Adams could also be well known for his heated debates with political rival Thomas Jefferson.Samuel Adams on the other hand is thought to be one of the main agitators the sparked the interest of independence among the colonies and influenced John Adams’ ideas on the subject. Today most people associate the name Samuel Adams with the popular Boston beer brewing company. Though Samuel Adams was from Boston and a brewer himself, he was not a very good one. Thankfully his recipes were not used in the Boston lager that we know today. If we were to wander the fields of Braintree Massachusetts around 1745 we might have encountered a bright young 10 year old skipping school and searching for direction in life. This little boy would be John Adams. Braintree was a farming community and residents there where rooted deep in their faith. This is where John Adams would grow up, and his father being a devout Protestant farmer tried to instill these values in his son. John Adams’ father wanted nothing more than for his son to be a minister. At the time this was the most noble and spiritually rewarding job one could have. John didn’t share this view with his father and would often skip school to daydream and frolic in the fields. One day when his father found out about his truancy, John said he was fine settling to be a farmer and didn’t see a need to go back to school. John’s father was thought to be an intelligent man and decided not to pick a fight but instead immediately put his son to work as he had wished. It didn’t take long for the young John Adams to realize that maybe going to school was that bad compared to the life of a farmer. John proceeded to excel in academics and would later graduate from Harvard University in 1755.He did not pursue the path in which his father wanted for him but instead became a teacher and later practiced law. John found law fascinating and had a strong belief in fair trials for anyone being prosecuted. He believed everyone should have a fair trial, so much in fact that he was even a defender for one of the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre. John Adams, in his old age, called his defense of British soldiers in 1770 one of the most gallant, generous, manly, and disinterested actions of my whole life, and one of the best pieces of service I ever rendered my country. http://law2. umkc. edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/bostonmassacre/keyfigures. html John Adams political career would take off when he and Thomas Jefferson were tasked to draft the Constitution. Notoriety of his work with the Constitution would propel Adams to be elected President President. Samuel Adams was also considered one of the founding fathers of the United States. Born in Boston on September 1772, Samuel was raised in a religious family like John Adams. Samuel Adams was raised in a Puritan home; his father was a deacon of the church and a successful beer brewer.Like John Adams, Samuel attended Harvard and proceeded to study law after graduation. Unlike John, Samuel didn’t study law for long, instead he took a job working as a clerk in the counting house of Thomas Cushing. Then decided to venture out on his own and test his entrepreneurial skills, none of which were successful. These pitfalls lead Samuel into politics. He felt as if his father’s business ventures and his own were stifled by the British economic stronghold on the colonies. This idea was the driving force for his bolstering opposition of British taxation and the beginning of his political career. It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds. ’ Samuel Adams. This quote is an accurate portrayal of Samuel Adams political philosophy. Though he was unsuccessful in previous ventures Samuel found his strongest trait to be the ability to rally people and persuade. This would make him a very successful politician. The British viewed Samuel Adams the same way The United States views radical Islamic extremists today. He was not only a hreat to the British economic ties to the colonies but a revolutionary that could possibly persuade the way government was perceived around the world. The British promised they would not punish Colonists who would stop fighting against them, all except Samuel Adams and John Hancock. http://library. thinkquest. org/TQ0312848/sadams. htm Though the desire of independence was similar with both Samuel and John their political philosophies differed. John was a republican and Samuel was a Federalist. Though this was not the most prolific difference between the two.The main difference between the two was their approach of obtaining independence. John Adams believed that negotiations and the justice system was the best path to independence. Samuel on the other hand, initiated mobs and felt a militaristic revolution was the only answer. The Stamp Act was an example of the distinctive difference in approaches. During this conflict John Adams took a conservative approach and wrote articles in the Boston Gazette stating the legal logistics of how the Stamp Act was infringing on the rights of the colonist. He also drafted Braintree Instructions. The Braintree Instructions were a comprehensive essay outlining the rights of the colonists. He would promote his publications by giving speeches at government assemblies. Samuel Adams decided to take a more rash approach. He founded was it to be believed to be Americas first gang The Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty was a violent group of activists that were responsible the hangings of British appointed officials. When the British passed the Stamp Act Samuel Adams decided to set fire to and destroy the building that was going to be the headquarters for this new tax.During the campaign for freedom john Adams could be considered the brains while Samuel Adams was the muscle of the operation. Though their tactics were in stark contrast, both Adams’ thought very highly of each other and would share ideas through meetings and letters. This exchange of ideas would complement one another and help balance their next course of actions. In the letters exchanged between the two, they ask questions and often refer to ancient European philosophers. The interpretation of the teachings of these philosophers varies between them. This is evident when they would write about the future political architecture of the country and balance of powers. In a letter to John Adams, Samuel Adams states The best formed constitutions that have yet been contrived by the wit of man, have, and will come to an end,—because the kingdoms of the earth have not been governed by reason. The pride of kings, of nobles, and leaders of the people, who have all governed in their turns, have disadjusted the delicate frame, and thrown all into confusion. http://democraticthinker. ordpress. com/2010/04/10/samuel-john-adams-on-government%E2%80%94letter-ii/. This shows Samuel Adams civil unrest for any past government in place. Even with a fair constitution he believes that the powers that are to enforce the constitution can and will one day be corrupt unless there exists a checks and balances system. John Adams would keep statements like this in mind when he would take part in drafting the America’s new constitution and lay the ground work for the prosperous country it would become.

8 Skills You’ll Need for Your Future Retail Career

8 Skills You’ll Need for Your Future Retail Career Depending on your preferred side of the optimism/pessimism street, the future is either something to worry about, or something to anticipate eagerly. What is true either way is that we don’t really know what will be coming along. However, we do know a few things: there will still be a need for highly qualified retail professionals, and there are skills we can build now to help be prepared for whatever the future retail world looks like. 1. Tech SavvyIf you have a Prime account or have developed a first-name-basis relationship with your package delivery guy or gal because you have so many things shipped right to your door, you probably already know that the retail revolution will only become more digital. If you’re working on future-proofing your retail career, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to get caught up (and keep up) with the tech trends. This doesn’t mean that brick-and-mortar stores will cease to exist in your career lifetime, or that we s hould all just apply for jobs at Amazon and be done with it. Rather, start paying attention to how people are shopping. What devices are they using? What are the conveniences of shopping via tech vs. shopping in person? How can the in-person shopping experience be made better or easier by using technology? Whether you’re a corporate employee, a customer service rep, or a retail associate, being familiar with technology (and its benefits) will make you better able to do your job, because you’ll be equipped to deal with whatever impact apps, online storefronts, or other tech advances have on the retail world.2. Social Media SmartsSocial media has become the go-to place for retail brand ambassadors. It’s a way to advocate for your store, product, service, or brand, and to directly reach customers. No matter what your role in retail, being well-versed in social media can help you reach more people to build your brand, or- at the very least- collect vast amounts of i nformation on your target customer base.3. Knowledge of Logistics and OperationsThe big push has been to deliver goods and services fast- as close to immediate as logistically possible. That trend is likely to keep continuing in the future, so the logistics end of retail is going to be a major growth area. Strong organizational skills, as well as a passion for getting things from Point A to Point B quickly, cost-effectively, and safely will create an incredibly valuable skill set to bring to your career. And if you’ve got a brilliant plan for making drone deliveries work, well, your future in the retail world is probably very bright indeed.4. A Focus on DataThe future is, unquestionably, grounded in data. We generate data about ourselves and our preferences when we shop, when we browse, when we interact with anything online. But all of that data not only has to go somewhere, it has to be analyzed and turned into ideas that can actually be turned into better customer service, o r an improved bottom line for the store. And â€Å"data† can seem like a daunting, faceless skill that might not have a direct impact on your own career, but it actually creates lots of different opportunities for people in the field. It increases the demand for Information Technology professionals in retail who can capture and present the data, as well as analysts who can turn it into goals and processes for a company, and also managers, associates, and customer service professionals who can take all of that upstream information and use it on direct sales and customer experience. You also don’t need an advanced degree in IT or engineering to bump up your data analytics skills. You can use free online analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to start building a base of knowledge about how people interact with information, what kind of information you can get about people, and how that might affect business decisions. There are also free online courses you can take to star t building your data analysis skills.5. A Knack for Customer ServiceGreat customer service skills never go out of style, and they will continue to be crucial in future retail. This goes hand-in-hand with the social media savvy we talked about before, because so much of the customer/consumer experience is rooted in digital platforms: looking for product information, needing help troubleshooting, and giving feedback. The trick for the future of customer service will be adapting those traditional customer service skills to a digital environment, one where you may never face or talk to the customer. There are also additional layers of accountability for the customer service rep in the future, as customers have more and more avenues to talk about their experience with a company. (I’m sure we’ve all cringed at some of the viral stories about customers who have been stonewalled, insulted, or worse by bad customer service, made instantly public via social media.) The future of customer service will be balancing the company’s bottom-line needs with the realities of working with customers.6. Knowledge of Behavioral FinanceFinance and financial theory are skills and knowledge that have always been essential in retail, and always will be. However, â€Å"behavioral finance† is a relatively new concept. It combines economics with psychology to help guide and understand financial decision-making. Understanding why people make the financial decisions they do (like, say, purchasing one product and not another) is, like data analytics, a skill that will become very valuable in the retail world.7. Design and Merchandising TalentConsumers have come to expect a certain level of design sophistication from retailers, and that trend is not likely to reverse any time soon. Stores and companies are also increasingly focused on behind-the-scenes design and merchandising strategies, meant to steer the customer toward purchases without him or her even realizing it. Professionals with an understanding of how design engages customers, and how to maximize that, will bring a very useful skill set to a retail career.8. FlexibilityAnd don’t forget a basic personal skill that will come in very handy in the world of future retail: adaptability. This is an important skill to have no matter which industry you’ve chosen to build your career- after all, very few companies are interested in someone who says, â€Å"this is how things are done now, and that’s just how it should be forever.† But flexibility is an especially crucial skill for retail. Look at how things have changed in the past 10 or 15 years for retail, as behemoth companies like Amazon and Walmart have shaped how and where we shop. And as technology upgrades and people’s needs change and evolve, there is no reason to think that the current status quo will hold for the future. An openness to change, to innovate, or to say â€Å"we can do this better,â₠¬ is an outlook that will help you survive and thrive as a retail professional in any environment.Retail, like all industries, will continue to evolve- and if you start working on skills now that will make you a smarter and more adaptable professional later, you’re setting yourself up for an even more successful career.

Free sample - The Sun vs. the Moon. translation missing

The Sun vs. the Moon. The Sun vs. the MoonThe humankind might not once have asked the question of WHO we really are. It’s quite obvious, even to say normal. Our curiosity is kindled by a genuine interest to reach the inner gist of Universe nature, to conceive the interrelation of the processes, phenomena taking place around us. The ghost of uncertainty and obscurity seems to haunt us unless we get down to bed-rock. With this reference, with the aim to have a notion of the medium we live in and the outer space, not to get lost in the infinite answer-searching roads and directions, it is essential and rational to resort to the authoritative sources. Thus, such spring-well of our world perception formation is a scope of information received via constant research making stream. Therefore, taking into consideration the accumulated and currently obtained data, let’s take a walk into the planetarium and try to explore the Sun and the Moon, two contradictory and coherent entities. For this reason, our attention will be focused on elucidation of some inherent and enquiry-driven aspects which can assist us in making the review outline. Hence, we are going to shed the light on the Sun and the Moon structure and another quaint, intricate phenomenon concerned with the subject matters on question – eclipse. I.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The Natural characteristics of the Sun and the Moon. Striking, as it may be, what wonders can exist. At least the two of them are the Sun and the Moon both being celestial bodies with their specificities, features and peculiarities. Both of the entities are the constituents of the solar system. A. Criteria for comparison of the bodies of the Solar System To have a clear idea of the differences and similarities, it is necessary to examine the following criteria: position in the Solar System size; mass. B. The Sun characteristics. The Sun in the Solar system is a central star in the Solar System. Its diameter is about 1,392,000 km. The Sun is distanced from the Earth at about 149.6 million kilometers, what can change depending on the Earth movement. The hydrogen gas the Sun consists of enables the process if light emission. By means of photos we can see this light dispersion in the form of waves. Moreover, such pictures give us opportunity to view some other fascinating points such as color and surface. The inner core nuclear processes taking place in the Sun produce temperature of more than 10 million degrees (Kelvin). As a result, the Sun comprises a container of constantly boiling scope of gases. It’s probably hard to imagine how immensely much it is, speaking about the Sun’s mass being about 2 Ãâ€" 1030 kilograms. Regarding the way the Sun looks, it is changeable and depends on gas reaction. C. The Moon characteristics.   Unlike the Sun, the Moon is the Earth’s natural satellite. What is more, it takes an honorable place in the Solar System being the largest of natural satellites and the second densest. The structure of the Moon can be seen as plains dark in color, which are believed to have once been constituted by lava that with time span became solid. When judging the Moon’s size, we may state, that it’s  ¼ the diameter of the Earth. With reference to its mass, it also can’t but strike the human’s imagination - 7.3477 Ãâ€" 1022 kg. The whole Moon’s surface is covered with numerous craters resulted from asteroid activity in the past. D. Color perception   In contrast to the Sun’s color which is actually white though seems to the human eye as yellow, the Moon in its turn is just the giant reflector of the Sun’s light. Still, we also perceive the Moon as a light radiating entity. It’s a curious interaction, isn’t it? In this case we deal with an interesting trick of the eye sight.  Ã‚   II.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Eclipse. Giving the fact the Sun and Moon are the Solar System bodies, they are astonishingly interconnected. Now and again the world population can watch an exquisite scenery that blows up everyone’s skirt. Such Universe phenomenon comes to be eclipse.   When the Moon, Earth and Sun happen to be in one row like a chain we can see lunar and solar eclipse. In case when the Earth in this row appears in the middle between the Sun and Moon, we have the opportunity to observe the lunar eclipse. Contrary to this, is the scenario of solar eclipse. When the Moon and the Earth exchange their positions, the line is the following Sun, Moon and Earth. To make the long story short, we, humans, can’t examine, observe and study such unique celestial bodies as the Sun and Moon irrespective of the Earth, which we inhabit. Ahead of us we have a myriad of secrets that the infinite and boundless Universe conceals under the curtain of mystery.

The next generation air transportation system Research Paper

The next generation air transportation system - Research Paper Example The Next Generation 2010plan was developed with a plan to focus on theimprovement of the operations. In 2003 a Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) was developed to plan and coordinate the development of the system. Next Generation Air Transport System is majorly designed to relieve airspace congestion problems at high density airports (Rodrigues and Cusik). These airports are said to have a lot of flights taking place within 24 hours and human traffic is also high per year. Therefore FAA has rated them top in the list to receive this upgrading; an example is the New York Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. This system has been in demonstration in Delta Airlines and FedEx. Refining and improving satellite navigation through augmentation systems will assist pilots in all flight phases that are: taxing, to take-off, en-route flying and landing in all weather conditions, reaching the level of safety thatwill be required to cope with the continuous increase in the number of flights. It is an important development because flights could be for commercial purposes or leisure purposes within the same airspace thus the need to separate them. The old system provides navigation to pilots through the aid of equipment like Non Directional Beacon (NDB) which is a radio transmitter put on the ground at a known location from which the aircraft can track to or from, whereas VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR) which is used to provide a more accurate directional information. Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) providesdistance information to and from the facility. Lastly, there is Instrument Landing System (ILS) that provides lateral and vertical guidance to aircraft approaching landing. All these facilities had to be located in positions where they were accessible for maintenance and optimum navigation purposes. Currently in the old systemdomestic airspace is monitored by the radar and there are

Describe the methods used to calculate value added. How does value Essay - 12

Describe the methods used to calculate value added. How does value added contribute towards understanding the connections between the business and its product markets - Essay Example The discussion will investigate different methods of calculating added market value, and determine how added market value contributes to an understanding towards the connection between the business and its products market. Within the overall framework of added market value, economist assert that value added calculation is crucial for classical business accounts. Economists interpret added market value as consisting of the ability to determine the business earnings while the turnover is not precise because the business expenses are not considered. In this perspective, value added is the subtraction of output (expenses) compared to the inputs. Therefore, outputs that are not produced by the business are not considered. Some economists calculate value added in both addictive and subtractive methods, (Berger, 1999, p.34). For instance, subtractive value added is estimated by subtracting material and services costs and from the revenue of sales. The added market value or benefits indicate revenue generation. Similarly, it can be evaluated by deducting the investment capital of the business from the business value. These represent the profit of the firm, or the total cash the organization has produced using the utilized cash. Addictive method determines value added by summing up price of labor (such as social charges) benefits from the operation and devaluation. This allows the firm to investigate the means of distributing the generated revenues. Addictive method also sums up the adjusted recorded value of equity and debts investments of the business, (Grant, 2003, p.28). These indicate the used money of the enterprise or the total cash utilized in the business. The increased method multiplies the amount of the marketplace share of stock by the accessible share numbers for public businesses. This establishes the firm’s market value, or the total amount of cash the firm can produce. If the enterprise is unknown, investigate

Becoming an Early Childhood Educator Essay Example for Free

Becoming an Early Childhood Educator Essay U. S. President Barack Obama emphasized on the importance of education in a country for not only one time. He believe that education provide the opportunities to every single citizen to work on their strengths and ability to fulfill their responsibilities to the country by contribution on specific career in order to build up a strong country. I strongly agree with his point of view as education is not an individual responsibility but to all. Education is the basis of a country in order to strengthen the economic status and development. Thus, it’s our responsible toward the society and nation to educate our next generation by provide a positive social and physical environment to instill wholesome character building in young children. Society now day faces variety of problem especially family issue that commonly happens include child abuse, divorce cases, youngster tend to run away from home, abandoned baby and etc. One of the factors that caused these issues is lack of realization on importance of education. There is a quote stated: If we would amend the world, we should mend our selves; and teach our children to be, not what we are, but what they should be. Quote by: WILLIAM PENN, Some Fruits of Solitude) Most of the parent didn’t realize their responsibility to their child as a role model in the growth of their children during childhood period. They might lack of exposure on the importance of early childhood education, or they unconsciously neglected their children’s need due to financial pressure in order to provide and maintaining the living standard of family. Thus, it’s our responsible as an educator to assist the parent on educating our next generation. It is my pleasure to meet a truly dedicated teacher in my life, although she was only teaching me as my class teacher for 1 year but her contribution and the bonding between me and she has brought the greater impact to my life. Compare to the teachers of old time with today, sadly to say, there are not much improvement among the quality of educator. Most of the educator are work for survive, they are lack of the passion and realization on their role and responsibilities, perhaps they do not know how to apply their knowledge on teaching method skillfully. In fact, it is the greater satisfaction as an educator to witness the growth of a child from innocence young age to a mature child. This is a most important period to instill a positive personality in a child as the behavior he practicing now will bring toward to adulthood and became his characteristic. The greater success of an educator is not the quantity of reward, but the recognition of the effort by the parent, student and society. The most precious and valuable achievement is to witness the success of wholesome character building on a child when they turned to an adult and continue influence the people around them with positive attitude. It is hard to achieve the objective of education with single contribution. Therefore it is important to bring together all the educators who having same ideology to work together as a role model to influence people around include the parent, children and colleagues to understand the importance of education. The main responsible of an early childhood educator is to instill the positive character to a child to develop wholesome character include sense of belonging, sense of responsibility, positive moral value, lifelong interest on learning, curiosity to the world and mentally and physically healthy and wealthy. Teacher as the second person after the parent as the role model to a child should practicing good behavior and attitude. Besides, a good teacher knows how to apply the knowledge skillfully to help children adapt to the knowledge on their level of understanding without killing their curiosity to the world. On the other hand, educator also played an important role to the parent because society in Malaysia now day is improving along with the realization on the importance of education. However, although the parent understands the importance of education, they are still lack of information in term of knowledge and skill to apply on their children. They are keen to seek for professional advancer and services as the agent of education to their children. In fact, this is a big step for the society; educator should always work closely and collaboratively with parent to encourage them involve in their child’s learning process to create love and caring environment for the children. The philosophy of a preschool setting that believed and practiced by the entire organization included administrator and teachers determine the process of achieving the goal of an organization. Same goes to personal philosophy held by a teacher, it is important to work collaboratively on behalf of children’s interest regardless personal identity and background. Teachers should be always ready to lend their hand to each other and strive for improvement together by sharing information and joining workshop, seminar or training together. Whenever there is dilemma, teacher should ask for the comment and suggestion without hesitate from senior colleague who willing to share their experiences and solve the problem together. Beside, teacher also played a role on providing a safe, healthy, loving and caring environment to young learner to develop sense of belonging and bonding among the children by always staying alert on potential danger and awareness on child’s behavior, health, physical and mental needs. Teacher should be always practicing 3R which is responsive, respect and reciprocal. Consistently interaction with the children is needed to understand child’s unique character and develop trust and respect relationship among children. However, teacher should allow necessary independent learning and respect child’s right in order to foster the development of children to prepare the children to be ready for the future challenges in their life. Knowledge on young children development is very important for educator. Therefore educator should be always seeking for improvement to provide highest quality service to the children. A knowledgeable teacher is always stay well informed on the latest update on government decision on education such as changing school syllabus and assessment for the student. Beside, by participate in variety of workshop, seminar and training; teacher will learn different teaching method to adapt children’s development milestone. Same goes to courses that offer in colleges and local university; it will improve the qualification and knowledge of teacher. By joining professional association, teacher will be always staying informed on the latest teaching approach and able to seek for professional comment from others. On the other hand, teaching should be stay adventurous when applying new skill to the children, learn from trial and error by observation and self reflection consistently. Teacher should be sensitive on child’s development to evaluate and improving the teaching method creatively in practical way. By understanding different learning pattern of the children, teacher should apply knowledge and skills in plenty ways for children to adapt to the knowledge. In conclusion, a professional early childhood educator should be having mental and physical readily with positive and optimistic attitude, be ready to takes up responsible and handle every dilemma and always strive for improvement. It is very important for an educator understand his/her role on the position held and to be flexible to adapt every changes and different situation. Lastly, enjoyment for the satisfaction of teaching will lead the educator to longer journey as time goes by because You never know how much it’s worth until its gone.

Lockhart1 Taylor Lockhart B4 Thoughtful Laughter in The Importance of Being Earnest The Importance of Being Earnest Written, written in 1854, by Oscar Wilde, discusses many social matters occurring in the 19th century. Since The Importance of Being Earnest is a comedy, it â€Å"awakens thoughtful laughter† (George Meredith). This comedic play often awakens thoughtful laughter, or laughter that makes someone ponder more about important issues. One of many of the primary instances of this is created by the ideas of marriage and love is a social device during this era. The characters didn’t fall in love because there was a romantic spark or that they felt a love connection with one another, they fell in love because the people they loved had a specific name, history, physical characteristics or economic status. Gwendolen confesses to Jack, or his confidante Ernest, â€Å"The moment Algernon first mentioned to me that he had a friend called Ernest, I knew I was destined to love you† (10). That quote proved that Gwendolen’s drive to marry â€Å"Ernest† for him having the name Ernest, rather than marrying him for his character. Cecily also confesses something along the same lines as Gwendolen to Algernon, that even though she had never met him before she fell in love with him: â€Å"Well, ever since dear Uncle Jack first confessed to us that he had a younger brother who was very wicked and bad, you of course have formed the chief topic of conversation†¦a man who is much talked about is always very attractive†¦I daresay it was foolish of me, but I fell in love with you, Ernest† (32). She is led to believe that Algernon’s real name is Ernest. Cecily and Gwendolen are attracted to Jack and â€Å"Ernest† because of their histories. Gwendolen wa s excited to find o... ...Lady Bracknell was excited to hear that Cecily has wealth; she almost instantaneously consented to her marriage to Algernon. Wilde uncovers the frivolousness of their proclaimed love by displaying how Lady Bracknell would only consent for Lockhart 3 marriage if the partner came from a wealthy background, instead of falling in love because you actually loved that person. Wilde â€Å"awoke laughter† in The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde showed rather than falling in love because you actually liked a person, the people of the Victorian Era fell in love solely on minute details such as physical features, a person’s name, or how much wealth they had. The comedy comes into play when Wilde pokes fun at the process of falling in love, because the characters rush falling in love with the right person, the audience compares the character’s reality with the world’s reality.

Research Paper NT1430 Essay

When it comes to IPv6 there are a lot of topics that can be discussed. It will change the Internet forever as we know it. IPv4 is the fourth version of protocol using a 32 bit address space whereas IPv6 will be using 128 bits of hexadecimal addressing to allow for drastically more addresses. Currently IPv4 allows roughly 4,294,967,296 possible addresses and with the current allocation practices it limits the number of public address to a few hundred million. In contrast, the 128 bit address space that IPv6 uses can provide roughly 3.4 x 1038 possible addresses. The sheer size of the IPv6 address allows for the subdividing of the address into a hierarchical routing structure that in turn can reflect the current topology of the Internet. This will provide great flexibility for the addressing and routing in the future where the IPv4 obviously lacks in comparison. It would hard to imagine a world where we do have anymore Internet addresses to go around. This should hopefully solve that problem, at least for a while to come. When configuring DHCP on Linux to use IPv6 one must be sure that they have everything in order. The two most used means of auto configuration IPS are on the router advertisement and dhcpv6. When you are using the RA a server daemon needs to advertise a network prefix which is typically a /64, gateway and sometimes a DNS server. Then the Client machines can auto configure their IPv6 addresses when they have initialized a bootup based on their current MAC address using EUI64. When addressing the same situation with dhcpv6, dynamic or static addresses can always be assigned to the current client machines. Unfortunately the gateways cannot be assigned due to the design of the dhcpv6 protocol. If you must use dhcpv6 you have to use RA. You can configure RA to advertise only the gateway leaving the IP and DNS server configuration all up to the dhcpv6, or only the DNS servers. In order to run dhcpd in IPv6 mode you  need to add a -6 argument. The arguments should define the configuration file and lease file. Here is an example of a startup command; /usr/sbin/dhcp -6 –cd/etc/dhcpd6.conf –lf/var/state/dhcpd6.leases eth1. The -6 enables the IPv6 mode and the –cf defines the IPv6 configuration file. Here’s an example of the dhcpd6.conf; # dhcpd6.conf authoritative; option dhcp6.name-servers 2001;db8;1;1;;200; option dhcp6.domain-search ‘internal.1an’; In conclusion, I hope that after this you understand why IPv6 is such a game changer and why it is so important for our world going forward. Without it our planet would cease to exist and everything would stop. Obviously IPv4 is still around and will be for a few more years, but the days of thinking that IPv4 would last forever or definitely over and it’s time for something new will hopefully last a little longer. Native American Culture Essay

Estrangement is the state of being withdrawn or isolated from the objective world, as through indifference or disaffection. Ill-advisedly, the protagonist from â€Å"The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven† is forever bound in this state of mind. His internal conflicts enthrall between fighting for his Native American ethnicity, and, finding his purpose to this world. This link between the two becomes a challenge due to his pessimistic, and protective attitude for his race. The narrator’s volatile actions imply his frustration towards the discrimination against his native Spokane reservation heritage. The protagonists’ Native American upbringing intertwined with White culture challenges his Red and White thinking. The protagonists’ family style upbringing has distilled values that are outlived in his Native American identity. Unfortunately, the protagonist is quite protective of his Native American descent. In fact, his view of people is quite pessimistic towards the Native American race. This rigidness to his ethnicity is foretold in two parts. As humans, we are first born with an identity that is kept close to us, such as Native American, African American, or Grecian. Although we are born with uniqueness; the values we instill to our race are brought about through parent’s effort in raising their children. For Sherman Alexie, he’d developed a cynical character who bares strong connections to his Native American race. The protagonist’s existence and demeanor is uncanny because he’d been destined for a life of prosperity through public schooling and a college education. Found here, â€Å"But I was special, a former college student, a smart kid. I was one of those Indians who was supposed to make it. I was a new kind of warrior. † This quote reveals his sense of insecurity concerning his life thus far and how he has not lived up to his expectations. â€Å"The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven† exposes a few scenes where the main character is fighting for ethical freedom outside of Spokane. The protagonist’s discriminative experiences begin at a convenience store in Seattle where he feels like a predator lurking amongst his preys. As stated, â€Å"He looked me over so he could describe me to the police later. † The protagonist was familiar with this wicked look; as he’d lost a close relationship to its devilish hands once before. His loss began like this, â€Å"When one person starts to look at another like a criminal, then the love is over. † As Native American, these adverse impressions occur randomly as seen through the Police incident. In this scene, the protagonist had been pulled over in a wealthy neighborhood by the police officer, â€Å"You’re making people nervous. You don’t fit the profile of the neighborhood. † This was a friendly way of saying; you are not wanted in this area, please leave. These occurrences are upsetting to the narrator as they have affected his view of Whites. As the protagonist becomes disgusted with life, he packs his belongings and heads home to Spokane in Washington State. While home, he realizes that connecting to his family and finding peace is not easy. His weak-minded thinking is foreseen here,† They’d been expecting me back the day I left for Seattle. There’s an old Indian poet who said that Indians can reside in the city, but they can never live there. † In fact, while living in Seattle, his dreams became nightmares of a vivid war scene between the Red’s and Whites. The Indians became slaughtered by the Whites and at one point, â€Å"Three mounted soldiers played polo with a dead Indian woman’s head. † This graphic image stays with him as he found accounts of this madness occurred in the old west and in parts of the world today. The protagonist’s dreams and Native American ethnicity have instilled protective beliefs to his ethnicity and real life demeanor towards others. Although he’s strong-willed concerning his background, insecurity remains present. One instance occurs where he starts a job in Spokane at the local high school exchange program. He answers phone calls and asks himself, â€Å"Sometimes I wonder if the people on the other end of the line know that I’m Indian and if their voices would change if they did know. † His insecurity exponentially evolves to every facet in his life and only exacerbates his pessimistic attitude. The cynical behavior by the protagonist has incurred due to several discriminatory experiences. One being, the protagonist’s cup is full; which allows him to believe this Red vs. White rivalry will never change. Because of his ignorance, he leaves no trust to anyone and is forced to run when he encounters discrimination. One situation that symbolizes the protagonist’s doubtful thoughts is encountered at his hometown basketball court. He comes home to find the new BIA chief’s White kid named Jimmy Seyler who can play ball. â€Å"And he could play. He played Indian ball, fast and loose, better than all the Indians there. † That night, Jimmy whooped on every Indian who played Basketball. I recognize this as a change of tone and direction in the protagonist’s life. At this point in time, he realizes that he must submit to his Red vs. White rivalry in order to move forward in his life. Just as Jimmy will advance and become an NBA star, the gap between the two races, White and Indian will only become larger. Indian’s will control the small reservation plains out West while the White culture advances to become a powerhouse figure in the United States of America. Hereafter this epiphany, the protagonist’s life begins to move forward as he starts a new job and connects with his ex-girlfriend once again.

How Santas Reindeer Got Their Names

How Santa's Reindeer Got Their Names If you ask the average American to name Santas reindeer, the first name to pop up will probably be  Rudolph  (the Red-Nosed Reindeer). The next two would no doubt be  Donner  and  Blitzen. But is this correct? And where did these names come from? Origin of Reindeer Names The popular Christmas song  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer† was a 1949 hit tune sung and recorded by Gene Autry and based on a character originally created by a marketing team for Montgomery Ward in 1939. The lyrics were written by  Johnny Marks, who borrowed most of the reindeer names from the classic 1823 poem â€Å"A Visit from Saint Nicholas† (more commonly known as â€Å"Twas the Night before Christmas†) by Major Henry Livingston, Jr. (Historically,  Clement Clarke Moore has been credited for the poem, but most scholars now believe Livingston to have been the poet.) The original poem refers to â€Å"eight tiny reindeer† (Rudolph actually makes it nine tiny reindeer) and names them: â€Å"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!/On, Comet! on, Cupid! on Dunder and Blixem!† Later Versions Dunder and Blixem? Youve always heard Donner and Blitzen, right? The former were Dutch names written into the poem by Livingston. Only in later versions, modified by Moore in 1844, were the two names changed to German:  Donder  (close to  Donner, thunder) and  Blitzen  (lightning), to better rhyme with Vixen. Finally, for some reason, in the song â€Å"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer† Marks turned Donder into Donner. Whether Marks made the change because he knew German or because it just sounded better is uncertain.* In any event, there is certainly some logic in using German  Donner  and  Blitzen  (thunder and lightning) for the names. Since 1950 or so, the two reindeer names have been  Donner  and  Blitzen  in both â€Å"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer†Ã‚  and the â€Å"A  Visit  from Saint Nicholas.

The AV experience depicts the view points at every angle along with the audio of the history of the construction of the tower and contemporary Melbourne life, some fun facts and trivia (lookear.net.au 2018). Eureka Skydeck offers a 360 degree breathtaking view of the Melbourne city, especially, the Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne’s CBD and Dandenong Ranges through thirty view finders on the observation deck in 88 th floor of the Eureka Tower. It is open daily from 10 in the morning to 10 in the night. Sunset and the evening are the most favored time of the visitors (tripadvisor.in 2018). Apart from the deck, the Edge is also another favorite of the tourists. Eureka has introduced another visitor experience, Eureka Vertigo, where it presents to the visitors an illusion of loosing balance and falling from the 88 th floor at the extra cost of AUD 15. The elevator takes only 38 seconds to reach the deck (tripadvisor.in 2018). The open-air terrace gives a feel of the strong wind and people get the sensation of hanging midair in the Edge. Although it is a ticketed attraction, people prefer to visit the Skydeck to get an extraordinary experience of the magnificent view of the city. As stated by Swarbrooke & Horner (2004), tourists are motivated to visit a place due to the push and pull factors and personality of the tourists is a determining factor for motivation, perceptions and the tourist behavior. Skydeck is preferred by the tourists who are motivated by the features of the Eureka Skydeck and the uniqueness of the experience that it gives. According to the travel-motivation theory by Gray (1979), the consumers choose the travel destination based on the two motives, one is to travel from a known place to unknown place, known as the ‘Wanderlust’ and the other is to travel with a specific purpose to avail some facilities not available at the residential place, known as ‘Sunlust’. These are the mostly the recreational, pleasure, cultural experience, shopping and new experiences (Chen and Chen 2015). In case of the Eureka Skydeck, people come here to have new experience, following the ‘sunlust’ motivation. It can be said that, people love to visit the Eureka Skydeck in the Southbank of Melbourne to get the best view of the city from the tallest observation deck in the Southern Hemisphere. At a minimum cost, the tourists want to get a unique experience, which reflects the motivation of sunlust as well as due to the push and pull factors of the Skydeck. Eureka Skydeck is a must see attraction of Melbourne that provides all the modern facilities to the tourists apart from the marvelous view of the city. From gifts to dining experience, Eureka Vertigo and the Edge are the additional factors that drive the tourists to the Skydeck and make an incredible memory for the lifetime. Importance of Following Rules and Regulations Essay

Importance of Following Rules and Regulations - Essay Example The rules are appointed for the benefit of all by a higher command. This allows the experience of experts to be brought into the lives of inexperienced people. Each person can position himself or herself more easily within a clear and consistent framework. This requirement to take up a position and follow rules and regulations is most obvious in the military. The Navy, for example, as part of the United States government, establishes its own requirements for all its staff to follow. It has a high level of responsibility, and the only way to guarantee that this responsibility is carried out, is to ensure that the command chain is observed. The rules allow the senior officers to steer all members in the required direction. The importance of command is that it guides and helps the members to uphold the rules. It must ensure that this happens, and that any errors or omissions are followed up and corrected. At times the rules may seem to make little sense to junior members of the Navy, but the main point of the command system is to train everyone in following the rules with professionalism and discipline. This is what marks out the military from civilian life and it can mean the difference between life and death in some situations. The service operates as a tightly controlled unit, and this is why it is important to follow its rules and
